Seeing from the other side

On the other side of the counter tonight. Our kitchen volunteer is not well, so I have taken the reins. Food has always been a passion of mine, but tonight has really given me an insight into what she deals with every week.

Those of us that lead teams of volunteers should put ourselves in the position of those volunteers so that we understand more about the tasks we ask them to do. The change of perspectives gives us the chance to understand and to be better able to support.

Volunteers are one of the most important groups of people of people in my ministry. I know that one of the key ways to make sure the ministry runs smoothly is to do all I can to help them be as effective as possible.

What are the other ways that we could better support volunteers? Has this encouraged you to put yourself in someone else’s position in order to understand their perspective better?
